How to Build a Craps Table Part 9

Posted November 18, 2012

I started staining the chip trays.
I went ahead and used the pre-stain conditioner. Then used a red mahogany stain.Five of them are ready for poly.

Just put the last coat of poly on the chip trays.
That’s a lot of trays!
Finally got back to it.I took the box portion of the table to the garage and stained it.
Here it is with the first coat of poly on it.
I finally cleaned out the spare bedroom and moved the table there.I stained the table top and the stand. I still need to polyurethane the table. I also need to paint that blue shelf brown. It was left over from an old waterbed frame. You can also see the stereo shelf I built. It is kinda ugly, but build sturdy. Maybe a vertical stained board on the outside, would make it look better.
I figured I need to stain the inside edge of the top rail. The chip trays sit on top of this, but the edge is visible when looking across the table. Here are some pictures of the edge and a small amount of the underside stained.
The 2×2 across the void is to keep it stable while it is detached from the box.
I put the second coat of poly on the table. It always looks good and shiny when wet!
I put a third coat on the box.
I decided to put a cap strip around the table edge, so I got these thin strips at Lowes. I stained them yesterday. Today I put a coat of poly on them.
My plan is to use finish nails to attach it around the perimeter of the table.  I’m competing for room in the garage. I’ve got some stuff to get rid of out there.
I put it all back together today. I put an LED rope lite along the interior of the bowl area. I used tie-straps after drilling two small holes for each tie-strap, under the chip trays. Then I put the chip trays on.
It came out looking pretty cool.
We are playing tonight. Can’t wait to show the guys and try it out!
